Congress seeks to silence authors Tarek Fatah and Taslima Nasreen. Both writers attacked in India’s Upper House Rajya Sabha

On July 20, 2016 during a parliamentary debate on the strife in Kashmir and the press censorship imposed in that State, the leader of the India’s opposition Congress Party in the Upper House of Parliament, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad took an unprecedented swipe at Bangladesh-born writer Taslima Nasreen and Pakistan-born Tarek Fatah, describing them as ‘anti-Islamic’ non-Indians.

The attack came after both Taslima Nasreen and Tarek Fatah participated in TV debates to discuss the role of a Saudi-backed Islamic supremacist wahhabi preacher in India, Dr. Zakir Naik in fanning Islamic radicalism in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, specifically in the State of Kashmir.

While asking for press freedom and freedom of speech, Mr. Azad ironically argued that both Taslima and Fatah be stopped from appearing on Indian TV networks and blamed the current Indian government for not silencing any discussion on Islam.

Here is an extract of Mr. Azad’s speech:

As bizarre as his allegation was, the Muslim Congress leader seemed particularly upset that both Nasreen and Fatah were vocal critics of the Islamists and Jihadis in J&K and identified themselves with Indian heritage.

The next day the Indian TV network ZeeNews hosted a discussion on this issue with spokesmen of both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress Party where the secular Congress’s representative insisted we no one should discuss Islam on TV networks even if the acts of terror were being carried put by jihadis in the name of Islam.

Here is the discussion in two parts:

Who is Mr Gulami Nabi Azad to criticise Taslima Nasreen and J. Tarek Fatah, two most liberal thinkers, writers and social reformists?

Mr Azad is one among many Dynastic Political Family disciples who will do anything he is asked by them to say or do. And this political leadership has an agenda to erode importance of Hindu Religion in India and promote others in a unjustifiable biased manner as dictated by anti Hindu Western Religious Headquarters.

They do this through political parties, greedy social activists, and using other various sources. Congress’ top Leadership is doing just that by tactically singling out BJP RSS as anti minority and communal while they are themselves communal players. They use minorities as scapegoats in their agenda of destroying Hindu entity here by making one section of it fight against other as was done by the earlier Western Power, The British Empire.

Mr Azad is just a tool in the wider scheme. He and his party are still in fools paradise of they think that they can fool people, especially minorities of this country, if they subtly indicate to them that Ms Nasreen and Mr Tarek Fataji are anti minority and trying to sow problems here. Never. They have full freedom of speech as citizens of this world and Azad must not show this much of Intolerance and fear of two finest personalities respected and appreciated by Lakhs of people. What Mr Azad tell is not gospel in India and he must leave freedom of opinion to the citizens and not try to impose it on them.

This is the real face of so called seculars in Indian politics. Congress ruined the Indian heritage due to their personal reasons. All problems are due to their mid governances.

Muslims have been considered as a vote bank for congress right from the day they came to power, they ave never cared for their education and development. They criticise the thinkers like Tarek Fateh and Taslima Nasreen just to appease the radical muslim leadership to use them again and again at election time. I always appreciate the courage of Tarek to speak fearlessly.

The less is said about this party it is better. It an anti-Indian party . Most of its so called leaders who cannot win a election on their own standing are in reality servants of its president .
They have no qualms to disown their own family for the sake of their own vested interest such is the character of these people.. Because such people India will never develop and her people would remain poor.
For the vested interests of these people India is divided on caste lines and community lines . They have shown the poison hatred among the people so that they do not get integrated and understand their ploy to remain in power and bask on public money lifelong without contributing any thing to the country.

I have watched Tarek Fatah for the last about 1 1/2 years.

I FEEL HE IS AMONG FEW WHO SPEAK TRUTH AND HE IS BEYOND RELIGIOUS PREJUDICE.

As I see, he has full belief in his own faith.

Congress now has become evil, as it wants to rule india by dividing people on religion and other issues.

WHERE WERE PEOPLE LIKE GULAM NABI AZAD, VICE PRESIDENT ANSARI,R AJDEEP SARDESAI, RANA AYUB, AND ALL COMMUNIST LEADERSHIP AND OTHER MANY , WHEN KASHMIRI PANDIT WERE DRIVIN OUT THEIR HOME—–IT IS SHAME ON CONGRESS PARTY.

IT WILL BE GREAT INJUSTICE, IF TATEK FATAH IS PRVENTED FROM EXPRESSING HIS VIEWS IN INDIA’S MEDIA AND OTHER SOURCES. MR TAREK FATAH IS TRUE HUMAN BEING AND HAS
      NO AGENDA OF HIS OWN.

I appreciate your work sir. But people like you are very few. What hurts me most is that common Muslims remain silent. I remember my childhood when you couldn’t distinguish between Hindu and Muslim. You could see Muslim men and women dressed normally. But now young boys can be spotted wearing beard and arabian costume. That short pajama and long kurta. It seems like time is moving back for Muslims. This is alarming. We have to do something. We have to promote sufism. Wahabism must be defeated.

Its natural for Ghulam Nabi Azad to oppose Mr.Tarek Fatah as he promotes Moh.Ali jinnah’s ideology which can be seen by his attire

Now reside in the U.S., I too am an escapee from Pakistan and know this only too well that muslims would much rather continue to live in their blissful slumber of ignorance untrammeled by challenges, either from within or from without. Thus under the shade, life is stagnating in the fetid stasis, quite secure generation after generation come and go (sleep on and nowhere to go) without the atmosphere conducive to leading a meaningful and/or a fulfilling life for increasing number of the believers.

Sun light of reason and thoughtful discussions is being offered by a few heroes, and that is posing a great threat? From the great slumber it would take an effort and who would do it? Who would have thunk it? Why, lo, we should encourage such informed personages to come to our lands and bring much needed health, getting from the most vibrant west to the land where such a wake-up call is manifestly needed, even a necessity to such a large body of moribund muslim polity world wide?

Are you kidding me? Where is the welcome mat? Instead, lo we have a tired old Mr. Azad’s speech in the well of the Senate’s Chamber. Is it worthy of a democracy to stand in opposition against the differing view points and stand in an effort to silence debate? Silence dissenting and challenging voices especially from one so informed such as Mr. Tarek Fatah? Indians ought to rise up and start a campaign to ask him, “How does the good senator defend such an undemocratic stance?” Since when have we become so insolent? And, hold Mr. Azad’s feet to the fire and make him accept Mr. Fatah’s open challenge to have a one-on-one match-up in a civil discussion over television on prime-time for the edification of the Indian peoples. Would Mr. Azad show the Indian people that he is not lacking in talent and has plenty of courage? I guarantee you that this match-up would do wonders for the ratings to any television station smart enough to be the first to secure such a billing.

If you are going to pit interlocutors against folks like Mr. Fatah, I’m sure, it would be greatly appreciated by your viewers including me, if the Indian TV would present little better (not those who are neither acquainted with debating protocols nor rules of civility, just blithering fools) and more articulate representatives.

It won’t be easy to rankle the sleeping python that has swallowed the billion-two and now sleeps under the shade of a very large family-tree over the period of upwards of five-hundred years.
