Is freedom of speech being stripped from some and not others? We want to hear Ezra Levant. Don’t silence him.
Ezra Lavant’s views and utterances for free speech are surely admirable. We should all cherish the idea of free speech no matter how much hurtful it may be to those who do not allow care for critical thinking.
But his views recently about the Human Rights Commission in the case of Mr. Mihaly are biased because of his earlier dispute with the commission on free speech. In the case of Mihaly, a foreign trained engineer, the Tribunal simply said that the immigrant engineer was discriminated on the basis of the country of origin, which is in line with different judgments of different courts.
There are over 4000 immigrant engineers who have been denied entry to the profession by APEGA on the pretense that they have degrees from countries with mostly non white WASP population.
Almost all the students admitted to graduate studies programs in all the Universities in Canada are from foreign countries mostly because only about 15 to 20 percent of the Canadian undergraduate engineers are eligible for admission. If the foreign degree holders are suitable for graduate studies and admission to Canadian Universities then how and why they are denied even the Engineer In Training (EIT) status by APEGA or other engineering associations in the country. This is a clear case of discrimination based on the country of origin in Alberta as well as all over the nation.
APEGA insists that the undergraduate degree be exactly equivalent to that of Alberta engineering degrees and that too be determined by a Board of Examiners consisting of 62 members most of whom have just an undergraduate degree.
Rather than looking at the main point and reasons for the judgment by the Tribunal Mr. Lavant has been blaming the Chief of Tribunal for his personal comments, which have no relevance even if they are true.
I think we shouldnt grant access to Canadian post secondary schools until all interested native citizens are satisfied. It is quite reasonable to provide education to our own citizens before providing the privilege to the rest of the world.
The Human Rights Commission is not a valid court. They should be dismantled IMHO. If someone believes they have a valid case against someone then they should go through the legal Court system.
The Human Rights Commission is a kangaroo court….
As for degrees …. I have a hairdressing certificate form British Columbia but I am not allowed to practice my trade in Alberta or any other Province until I take a course to prove that I am up to their standards in that Province.
This fella, Mr. Mihaly, was foreign trained…not trained at any of the schools in Canada. He wasn’t discriminated against because of where he came from or the color of his skin…but for his lack of being up to the standards in his field for the Province of Alberta.
Assaults on free speech are only carried out by totalitarian regimes. A great nation like Canada should not permit the intimidation of a journalist / commentator for his views.
I have the right to free speech….if someone gets offended due to what I am saying, it is not my concern.
Without free speech, no one can say anything due to worrying about someone’s feelings getting hurt.
Being PC is the killer of society and truth.
I’m happy that Ezra has taken on this fight….praying that he wins this battle for all of us Canadians!
